Canada Day 2020 celebrations will continue as we bring you an exciting initiative to collectively enjoy the day from a safe distance from one another. We have a number of activities lined up for you and your family to work on together throughout the day, culminating with a spectacular virtual fireworks display! Special guest, Canadian astronaut, Chris Hadfield will lead the final countdown on July 1st at 9:30PM EST.     The neighbourhood’s architecture will tell you a story of its transformation, from the narrow track used as an escape route from the city to becoming the shopping hub frequented by over 42 M pedestrians every year.

    Learn about Toronto's vibrant music history as we take you on a tour, stopping at 15 legendary music locations with stories and rare photos about the venues and the artists who played there. You can take the maps with you and walk along Yonge Street or do the virtual tours from the comfort of your homes. But please, remember, if you are stepping out, keep your distance and practice hand hygiene.

  • Paper Bag Puppets

    Get the kids creating a zoo of animal hand puppets from brown paper bags and colored paper. Suggest making Canadian animals like raccoon, polar bear, beaver;  or  a puppet of Amani Innis Dagg, Toronto Zoo’s latest addition in the giraffe family.

  • Canadian Themed Virtual Art Show

    Set the family on an artistic journey of discovery. Watch the AGO's short video on the Group of Seven. After, encourage everyone to paint landscapes or other themes that are inspired by Canada. You can include scenes of Yonge Street. Take pictures of their work and create a Canadian Virtual Art Tour on social media to share with friends and family. Tag us @DowntownYonge
